Michael Kors Backpacks

A Review of Michael Kors Backpacks

I’ve not posted for a few weeks as I’ve been enjoying a well earned holiday. Now that I’m back and sat in front of my laptop, this post is dedicated to a look at one of the most popular fashion brands out there and how they interpret the use, and design, of backpacks for ladies.

What’s the Michael Kors brand all about?

Established back in 1981, Michael Kors (and his namesake company) has built a massive fashion empire that produces products ranging from eyewear to shoes. The brand operates stores in all of the salubrious parts of the world and you’ll find a Michael Kors outlet in all the right places including New York, Beverly Hills, Chicago, London, Milan, Paris, Munich, Istanbul, Dubai, Seoul, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Rio de Janeiro.

In fact, the Michael Kors brand is now so big, it recently bought Versace in addition to another recent acquisition; that of the British label Jimmy Choo – which he bought for a cool £900 million.

Why do people buy in the Michael Kors brand?

It’s fair to say that as a business, you can’t go around buying up your competition if you’re not doing something right in the first place. So, let’s address a few points about why the Michael Kors brand is so successful.

Michael Kors backpacks

The main attraction to Michael Kors products seems to be the wide range of products in a wide band of price. This certainly helps to keep things exclusive enough for the right audience whilst at the same time, putting the brand far enough out of the mass-market reach.

A good example of this point is handbags. A decent size, functional Michael Kors handbag starts at about $300. This makes the brand accessible but not silly-priced like Chanel’s or Christian Louboutin’s where the same type of bag starts around $1200.

Another point is quality. Michael Kors products, especially bags, are very well made and desirable accessories for the price. This means that you can have a product that’s great value for money when compares to the likes of Dior, Gucci, Prada and Hermes where you’re dishing out a lot of money for a badge.

The Michael Kors backpack range

Since this brand is so popular with handbag enthusiasts, it’s no surprise that the Michael Kors backpack range is very popular. As you can see below, the style, in general, is that cross-over between handbag and daypack.

I’ve picked on 3 of the best for this article with the intention of giving you avid fashionista’s a few ideas as to why you might add a Michael Kors backpack to your collection.

The MK Abbey Jetset Leather Backpack

OK, so we’ve already talked about how the MK range is desirable due to the price points and this Abbey Jetset leather backpack is a great example of value for money in the Michael Kors range with an average price point of about $250.

The Abbey is a great choice for those of you who want a functional and very stylish ladies accessory for work and travel.

Although the backpack is about 15 inches tall one of the first things to be careful of is how this can be deceptive when it comes to the size of a laptop that will fit inside this bag. Due to the rounded edges, a 15-inch laptop will definitely not fit in this bag, but if you have something smaller in the 11-12 inch range then you’re good to go. There is also ample room in this backpack for books and other bits and pieces even with a laptop stowed away.

Other key features include the two water bottle pockets on either side and of course the shoulder straps are fully adjustable.

The MK Rhea Signature Backpack

The Rhea is often a replacement that many women take up after carrying heaver “non-backpack” bags on their daily commute and simply get fed up with. This backpack having several compartments, the shoulder straps and the chic design really makes it a winner as it has both form and function; in fact, it has been said that this MK backpack really is a girl’s best friend with storage for lipsticks, iPhone’s, keys, sunglasses and more!

With a high-quality leather construction, the backpack feels both luxurious and sturdy. As you would expect, the zippers are very robust and they won’t let you down. with size dimensions of 10.5(W), 12(H) and 4.75(D) inches, this is very much a medium sized backpack that you’d probably want to use for more casual, non-work related activities and this is due to the obvious lacking in size to carry a laptop or any books – although you will find enough space in this backpack for a 12 inch iPad.

The MK Wythe Backpack Handbag

This final MK backpack is usually available for about $300 and comes in a number of different colours. The exterior construction is leather with the lining being 100% polyester. Like the Abbey, there’s no shortage of zippers and storage space, although you’ll find this backpack slightly smaller which isn’t some ways changes the market that this backpack is aimed at; the main “selling” point being that this is a backpack for your overnight or weekend escape rather than commuting with your work accessories.

The polished gold zippers and detailing make this backpack look very high-end. Another feature of this backpack is the slightly wider shoulder straps which will certainly make it more comfortable for you to carry if you decide to load the backpack to capacity and it gets a bit heavy.

On the inside of this backpack, you’ll find a very neat and plentiful layout in terms of storage with 4 slip pockets on the front, a “tech” pocket, and a back zip pocket too.

Don’t forget…
