Which Vera Bradley Backpack Would I Buy?

Vera Bradley has an awesome range of backpacks for women

Would I buy one? Of course! When I wrote this review page on the best backpacks for women this season I mentioned that this brand needs a review all of its own and here it is.

Vera Bradley is all about bringing inspirational products to the market dedicated to women, and nowhere does this shine through more than with the colour palettes and exterior designs of all the backpacks in the range. One of the corporate slogans of Vera Bradley is the claim that they design their products with a great deal of understanding and empathy with their customers, and when it comes to design, it’s hard to disagree with this assertion!

The four backpacks in this article represent what’s great about this brand and the diversity in design that will show just how wide-reaching and appealing their backpacks can be.

The Lighten Up Small Backpack

Like many of the Vera Bradley range, the Lighten Up backpack is a hit with college students and it’s clear to see why – It’s stylish, has great storage options and is robust. Like most in the Vera Bradley range, this bag is machine washable and fade-resistant which really helps with longevity of your purchase; and when it comes to the money side of things, this is a backpack that does deliver in spades when it comes to value for money with this backpack frequently in the $50-$100 range, depending on where you buy it from.

You’ll also find this backpack is water resistant so you can be out and about with confidence knowing that the contents aren’t going to get soggy!

Pockets is something this backpack isn’t short of. There’s two pockets on the front and one zip pocket at the rear. There’s also two more side and slide pockets and also a dedicated compartment for your tech. With dimensions of 11.25 x 15 x 7 there’s plenty of room for your laptop (probably no more than 14-inch to be sure of a comfortable fit) and all those books you might be carrying for class.

The Midtown Cargo Backpack

This backpack is quite frankly, stunning! The one in the photo below is the City Flag and it’s gorgeous. If all of these colours are a little too much for you, it also comes in Black and hawthorn Rose. The interior print is also lovely and provides a great contrast in colors.

The backpack is also water repellant and it also has the drawstring closure and a magnetic clasp for added security. Inside the bag there’s a slide pocket on the back wall and two smaller pockets to the front which give god detailing and storage options.

One the front of the backpack there’s also three zip pockets; one of which is generous enough to hold something such as a Kindle or an iPad mini complemented by two small pockets with zip tops. One of the smaller pockets also houses the smartphone battery charger (sold separately).

The Midtown measures 11 x 13 x 6.5 inches with the shoulder straps having a drop of anything from 17 to 34-inches as the shoulder straps are adjustable. The wove poly material and the bold embroidering makes this a very substantial accessory that will take some wear and tear without any issues at all which is perfect for any daily journey through the urban jungle.

The Women’s Drawstring Backpack

Now, don’t let the colour of this backpack put you off! This is a backpack that has full-on functionality mixed with a distinctive, cross-hatch patterned exterior which looks very elegant making this backpack ideal for the busy working professional woman wants to make a statement!

Lifting the lid on this backpack a brings a smile too with the beautifully designed floral interior section contrasting quite sharply with the single colour exterior. Going back to the drawstring top, I am personally a big fan of these, especially being a resident of a very wet part of the world (the north of the UK). What I find makes a genuine difference with a roll-top or drawstring closure on a backpack is how much better protected the content are from the weather.

In terms of sizing and specification, this backpack is 11 x 12.75 x 5 inches with large, 30-inch plus adjustable straps in addition to a further 3-inch carry handle which is especially useful when commuting on a busy train, plane or bus. The drawstring top is also complemented by additional closure security with a magnetic clasp. As always, this too is a machine washable backpack that allows you to keep it in peak condition.

The Iconic Deluxe Campus Backpack

And finally, we come to the deluxe version of the highlight popular Campus Backpack. This is probably the backpack in this review that has it all, which is why it is, of course, considered the premium option and would be expected to retail somewhere in the $100-120 range.

One of the key features is the number of storage options. The pockets on this bag are substantial. Starting with the two slip pockets on either side, there’s ample room for half liter water bottles and also an umbrella, if you so need to carry one. There’s also a front pocket with a generous size which will easily accommodate a tablet before you even think about using the main compartment.

When it comes to the main compartment itself, the interior contrast with a floral pattern is again there just like the previous bag and it’s in here that you’ll find additional room for several large textbooks; in fact there’s so much room in here that you could easily use this as a mom-bag if needed for carrying all the child essentials on your daily travels. There is also a dedicated, padded laptop compartment (will likely hold a 15-16 inch machine) for your tech which is great.

With dimensions of 16.75 x 12 x 7.5 inches, this backpack also has a top handle drop and 33-inch adjustable straps. It also comes with a trolley sleeve for smooth travels. There’s also room for the smartphone charger and a handy little ring at the top of the backpack that allows for your headphone cables to be passed through should you wish to secure your device inside the bag whilst on the go and listening to music.
